Catch Excellence by Striving for Perfection
At Standard, we understand that everyone has to strive for perfection in order to achieve excellence. This is not a month-end or year-end exercise, this is a daily task. One can easily slide into a habit of skipping the “little things” that are so important to the pursuit of perfection. But ALL the little things add up to one big thing—excellence.
Two of the most important traits a person can practice as they chase perfection are persistence and a willingness to meet problems head-on. Persistence is a daily, even hourly, mindset that must be maintained—even in the face of challenges that at times seem insurmountable. And meeting problems head-on is just that, not dodging or procrastinating. Anything less than practicing persistence and meeting problems head-on will put you on the road to mediocrity.
Go to work not just to “work,” but to work with persistence and tenacity in your pursuit of perfection. As Vince Lombardi, the Head Coach who led the Green Bay Packers to victory in Super Bowls I and II said; “Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”
